About me

Hello, my name is Mauro Ramos and I am currently a Senior at the Savannah College of Art and Design with a major in illustration for publication design and entertainment. My dream job is to either work at a book publishing company or an animation studio. I particularly love creating self-inspired characters, environments, covers and portraits. I also do storyboards and preliminary sketching in order to provide professionals with an initial idea before moving on to a final composition. I utilize a wide variety of mediums both digitally and traditionally. I primarily work digitally on Procreate and Adobe Photoshop but I also have experience doing traditional work mostly using colored pencils, oil paint and acrylic.  Additionally, I like to animate my work on Adobe After Effects and Photoshop in order to have it come to life.


History

Art runs deeply in my family. I first got into it when I was in middle school and was taught by a professional art teacher at the Carol Morgan School in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I produced art throughout middle school and high school and learned many different methods such as 2D, 3D, painting, and even illustration. When I went to my boarding school during my junior and senior year of high school, I continued producing works of art. I chose to apply to the Savannah College of Art and Design because it offered a wide variety of majors, minors and concentrations within each major. During my freshman year, I began as a Graphic Design major and had the idea in mind that I could create visual content and incorporate my own typography and imagery. However, after taking a few of my general education courses, I realized that I wanted to major in illustration instead because I liked the wide variety of mediums and career opportunities that it offered. I enjoyed the aspect of having my thoughts come to life and creating my own books, TV shows, movies and games which are all things that I enjoyed.
